The Central Coast Radio Club was founded at Gosford, NSW, on Friday 18th October 1957 at Gosford School of Arts Hall, Mann Street, Gosford, and 37 people attended the opening meeting. Local Member of Parliament, Mr. Roger Dean, was elected as patron. President of the new Club was well known amateur, Major Collett VK2RU, and the secretary was Reg Brook, W.I.A. associate of disposals distribution fame. Four members of the N.S.W. W.I.A. council attended, including State President Pierce Healy VK2APQ. The Club’s beginnings were recorded in RADIO TELEVISION & HOBBIES, December 1957.
Our name has changed a few times. At the inaugural meeting, it was called the ‘Central Coast Amateur Radio Club’(similar to today). In its early days it was also known as the ‘Gosford Radio Club’ and the ‘Central Coast Branch of the Wireless Institute of Australia’. On the 3rd March 1972, it reverted back to the ‘Central Coast Amateur Radio Club’, and later, on the 20th April 1988 ‘Central Coast Amateur Radio Club Incorporated’.
The Club has moved on greatly since that time and we now boasts a membership of over 60 members, we have our own clubrooms in Kariong, and our own repeater site at Somersby.
